Identifying Vaping Students

Learn how to use SmartPass to track down students who vape at your school.

Updated yesterday

If you're looking for a way to more efficiently track down vaping students, turning to SmartPass can both save you time, and provide you with key data on student movement.

Benefits

  • Using reports from SmartPass can help back up claims from students or staff about a student's behavior when it comes to potentially vaping.

  • Using SmartPass data, you can stop spending hours watching video footage, as our reporting puts accurate time and location data at your finger tips.

  • Give your hall monitors and security staff the ability to make reports on student behavior in the hallway.

  • Quickly place interventions to prevent future meet ups between students, and even place additional pass limits on students.

‍

How to set up and use

  1. Ensure you train staff on how to submit reports, and regular check these for any potential vaping reports.

  2. Use historical pass data to track who was in and out of the restrooms at the time of suspected vaping. You can correlate this with physical reports, or with the reports from your vape detectors.

    1. Using the time and location data in SmartPass, review any needed video footage to support your claim.

  3. After all necessary meetings and decisions are made, consider placing interventions in SmartPass.

    1. Encounter Preventions are a great intervention if the student is vaping with others.

    2. Individual Pass Limits can help keep a student in class rather than in the hall.

    3. Consider setting a notification for a certain staff member any time this student makes a pass to help keep extra supervision when this student is in the hallway.
