The Time Limit setting determines the pass duration when a student is destined to that particular room. This is a required setting for each room and can be found on the rooms configuration page when building or editing a room.
Setting Your Time Limit
Time Limits can be set for any time between 1 and 999 minutes. When configuring this setting there are a few important things to consider:
1) How long will it take a student to get to this location, and potentially back to their original location? Generally, this is all the longer you need to make the pass.
2) Staff and students cannot add additional time to the limit, only subtract time.
3) It is best practice for students to end a pass when getting to a destination that they are remaining at for an extended period of time. For example, student that is going to a see a teacher to take a test would still only need a few minutes on their pass as they would end it upon arrival, take their test, and get a new pass to return to their class.
4) If you write in Pass Limits that are too long, you are potentially opening the door to students wandering the halls to use up that entire time limit.
What Are Common Time Limits Used By Other Schools?
Room | Suggested Time |
Water Fountains | 2-3 Minutes |
Restrooms | 5-7 Minutes |
Classrooms | 5-10 Minutes |
Nurse | 8-12 Minutes |
Admin and Counselors | 8-12 Minutes |
It is important to remember, these are just suggestions. You will want to configure what works best for how you plan to use SmartPass.
FAQ
Can students or teachers edit the time limit for a pass?
When creating passes they can only edit the time down, no one can add time beyond what is set by admin.
Can time be extended after a pass is written?
No, it cannot. You would need to end the pass and write another.
Can I allow certain students to have a different pass time limit than others?
Not directly. You would have to build a different room for those students and configure the rooms to be visible for only the appropriate students to do this.
