Using Kiosks

Learn how to use kiosks to improve your student and staff engagement with SmartPass.

Updated over a month ago

Using kiosks in your school can open up new possibilities for increased efficiency and even further reduce classroom interruptions. All you need is a spare device to dedicate to SmartPass for each space you wish to add a kiosk. Any web enabled device will work!

‍‍

Benefits

  • Allows for flexibility in the pass creation, especially in classrooms where 1:1 devices are not commonly used, ie: a math class. They are also a great tool for gym or art teachers where the student 1:1 devices may not be accessible at all.

  • Streamlines processes for passes in common areas such as the cafeteria or auditorium. For example, a kiosk is great for allowing students to create bathroom passes during lunchtime.

  • Helps support office staff when handling late arrival students by shifting pass creation to the students.

  • Gives teachers a voice in how they can use SmartPass in their classrooms.

How to set up and use

  1. For any room you wish to set up a kiosk for, start by ensuring a teacher is added to launch the kiosk

  2. If possible, configure the device, such as a Chromebook, or iPad, to launch directly to SmartPass for added security. You may need to have IT help with this.

  3. Have the teacher assigned to the room to launch the kiosk or, as an admin, you can help them by downloading the list of logins. This can be found on the rooms page.

  4. Inform teachers to record the kiosk's dedicated login information into their substitute teacher plans in the event that the kiosk is logged out when they are not in the room.

  5. Ensure students and staff are well trained on using kiosks.

Depending on your pass approval settings and needs, students may need to use their 1:1 devices for certain types of passes, as kiosks do not send pass requests to other teachers.
